Why do I want to pursue a career as a librarian? My ultimate goals are to enable others to reach their goals, to create opportunities for experiences, and to fashion the library into a sort-of Safe Space where people of all walks of life can come together without fear of racism, homophobia, ageism, sexism, and all the other things that divide us. I want libraries to be a celebrated and essential component of a community, retaining an emphasis on freedom of information and adding a freedom of expression. My intended career is as a Youth Services Librarian with a strong focus on programming which I feel will empower me in connecting with youths to make a positive difference in the community and give me space to create innovative and diverse programming to offer them experiences outside of their personal realm.
